Aims of The Thetford & District Dementia Support Group

Our aim is to be a reliable source of support and information for people with dementia, their families, and friends, helping them achieve a better quality of life. We encourage sharing memories and experiences as a way to connect and support each other, enriching the lives of all involved.

What We Do

Emotional Support and Information

Our group meets weekly, offering emotional support and valuable information tailored to the needs of people living with dementia and their carers. Whether you’re navigating a new diagnosis or supporting someone on their journey, we provide a safe space to share experiences and find encouragement.

Living Well with Dementia

Living with dementia is challenging, but there are positive steps you can take to improve your quality of life. We aim to empower individuals with dementia by sharing practical tips and suggestions to manage everyday changes. We encourage our members to discover their unique ways of adapting to the challenges of dementia.

Community Engagement

Our weekly sessions offer emotional support, practical advice, and engaging activities designed to help individuals live well with dementia. We create a supportive and empowering environment where participants can connect, share experiences, and enjoy meaningful moments together. In addition, we work to raise community awareness, reduce stigma, and provide workshops and training to foster a deeper understanding of dementia.

Community Education and Stigma Reduction

Our group is dedicated to raising awareness about dementia in Thetford and the surrounding areas. Through outreach efforts, we work to reduce the stigma often associated with dementia by educating the community, fostering greater understanding, and advocating for an inclusive, dementia-friendly society.

Workshops, Training, and Development

In addition to our weekly meetings, we offer a range of workshops, training sessions, and development opportunities. These programs are open to individuals and caregivers, as well as professionals who want to expand their knowledge and learn effective ways to support those living with dementia.

Meaningful Activities for Participation and Enjoyment

We believe in the importance of engagement and enjoyment. Our group offers a range of meaningful activities designed to bring joy, spark curiosity, and encourage everyone to participate. From creative arts to memory-sharing sessions, our activities are planned with purpose and care to help you make the most of each day.

Dedicated Carers Group

Supporting a loved one with dementia can be challenging, and carers need support, too. Our Carers Group provides a safe space for carers to share experiences, receive encouragement, and feel heard. Here, carers can talk freely, knowing they are surrounded by understanding and empathy.

Empowering Decisions and Encouraging Participation

At Thetford and District Dementia Support Group, we believe in empowering individuals with dementia and their carers by encouraging them to participate in decisions that affect their lives. We respect each person’s right to have a say and take pride in fostering an inclusive environment where everyone’s voice matters.

A Welcoming Space for Laughter, Fun, and Feeling Valued

Our group isn’t just about support; it’s also about having fun! We aim to create an atmosphere filled with laughter and joy, where every attendee feels valued and appreciated. Together, we share smiles, stories, and support, creating a positive experience for everyone involved.
